It was Einstein’s 72nd birthday party on March 14, 1951, when photographer Arthur Sasse was trying to persuade Einstein to smile for the camera. But having smiled for photographers many times that day, Einstein stuck out his tongue instead! While the photographer who took the shot, Arthur Sasse, was initially nervous about publishing the somewhat unflattering photo of the famed physicist, Einstein was tickled. According to Live Science, he ordered several copies of the photo and signed the original “A. Einstein .51.”
